HeatingSave is a low-cost, revolutionary Energy Management System that saves between 15% and 30%+ off the energy used to heat and light your home. It’s controller, which replaces the central heating timeclock, contains a computer program that learns, and constantly refines, the heat loss profile of your house so that it uses the least amount of energy.

At 25 Manor Road, St Neots, the HeatingSave system is using HeatingSaves’ glass evacuated solar tubes to heat the hot water using the suns rays. As HeatingSave is controlling both the boiler and the solar panel, it is able to make further economies by using the free energy from the sun as much as possible. The heating is turned up or down automatically depending upon the heat loss profile of the house and the outside temperature, whilst the occupancy sensors automatically turn up and down the heating depending on whether anyone is at home. The same occupancy sensors automatically turn lights on/off, this time saving money off the electricity bill. The immersion heater is also controlled by HeatingSave, allowing the home owner the vary the hot water temperature; hot for the baths/showers in the morning and cooler in the day for washing up, hand-washing and the washing machine. All saving energy and money, but leaving you firmly in control. Linked to the HeatingSave controller is a PC where the householder can change settings, view daily costings to help with the household budget and view the energy savings graphs so you can see that the system is actually working and saving you money. The HeatingSave system is linked to the Internet so you can control, set and view how well your energy management system is working from anywhere in the world.

At 1 St Audrey Lane, St Ives the HeatingSave system is controlling the Dimplex flat solar panel and the Dimplex air heat source pump. There is no central heating boiler, with heat being extracted solely from the outside air temperature and the suns rays. HeatingSave applies the same type of control at 1 St Audrey Lane as at 25 Manor Road. Again the Tensor access control system links to HeatingSave so that the energy management system “knows” when the house is occupied or empty.

HeatingSave is a government approved by the Carbon Trust and the Energy Savings Trust to save money on your energy usage. It is also an approved product on the lord mayor of London’s “London Green500″ scheme.

HeatingSaveare also helping CambridgeshireFire Serviceto reduce their heating bills, more information can be found on the Hunts Post website

The Greencell technologies – The Green House Project will take a whole house’ approach to refurbishment, starting with the building fabric and insulation, windows, heating systems, ventilation, water efficiency measures and the installation of renewable energy technology including solar thermal for hot water and solar photovoltaics (PV) for energy.

Green Houses provide an environment in which residents receive nursing support and clinical care without the care becoming the focus of their existence.

By altering facility sizes, interior designs, staffing patterns and methods of delivering skilled services, the Green House model provides greater health and lifestyle benefits compared to traditional nursing homes and assisted living communities. Here’s more:

A Green House is designed to look like a private home or apartment, with seven to ten bedrooms for seniors, so that each resident has his or her own room.

The common living space comprises a shared living room, dining room and kitchen facilities. The common room centers around a single big table where the group–residents, staff, caregivers, family and friends–sits down to dinner every night together.

“The Green House is based on deep relationships, nurturing, sustaining and protecting each person,” says Joyce Ebmeier, a guide for a nine-person home in Nebraska. “Excellent medical treatment is a key component of life in a Green House, but it is delivered discretely and supportively, respecting the rhythm of each elder’s life.”

The concept has spread from four Green House homes in Tupelo, Mississippi, to more than 40 homes operating in 10 states. NCB Capital Impact of Oakland, Calif., under the leadership of Robert Jenkens, has received funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to replicate the Green House model nationally, with the goal of developing 50 such homes by 2010.

“We are trying to create a nursing home that people will want to live and work in,” says Jenkens. “We want to make nursing homes places where people get care but their lives have meaning and purpose.”

The Green House concept has spread from four Green House homes in Tupelo, Mississippi., to more than 40 Green House homes operating in nine states. An additional 79 homes are under construction or in development, and close to 80 homes are planned in the coming years. Four Green House nursing homes in Florida are under development.

With funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, NCB Capital Impact is providing technical assistance and pre-development loans to organizations to facilitate replication of the Green House model nationally.

It is getting more and more popular to go green, and many Americans are leading the way in their housing choices. One area recently reported that their realty market was stagnant except for a big rush on newly built homes that came up for sale. They were powered by solar heating and were extremely energy conscious to run.

Solar heating is one smart choice in a sunny area. You will always have hot water to hand and solar power can be transformed into other energy and stored for when you want to run different appliances.

It may be that many of these buyers are trying to help the environment, but one good side effect of going green, is that the running costs will be less once you have set yourself up to be operating an energy conscious home. Heating and cooling systems can account for up to a half of your total energy bill in a non-green home.

One place to read about how to save energy in your home is Energy Star, the government’s on line site. Their many tips point out which energy is being wasted and where and how to avoid it. The on line site offers advice and free booklets to send for, and gives dozens of pointers on how to live green and how to build green.

One of the sites on Energy Star give you the top ten tips for finding a good contractor in your area, if you want to build a ‘green’ house or have a radical make-over.

Of course, there are other small ways that you can save energy and money in your pocket. One of their recommendations is that you stop buying the old-fashioned light bulbs and start buying the new compact fluorescent light bulbs.

These are expensive to buy at first, but on the cost of one light bulb, you can save up to $30 over the lifetime of one light bulb. If you live in a hot climate, you may be pleased to know that they put out less heat, so will also keep your air conditioning costs down. This is a very small change for you to make, yet it does save your cash and the environment.

The local governments and/or the federal government offer a selection of rebates to try and encourage people to become more energy conscious in their homes.

These grants, or one time rebates, can cover several different areas of green living. For instance, if your own state does not offer incentives for you to buy an efficient wood stove or furnace, you may be able to get one from the federal government.

The amount of the grant does not cover the cost of buying a new stove, however, it can save several hundred dollars from the price.

If your are planning to buy a home and have it built for you, remember that many builders will add your requirements in at the end, so therefore it is often easy to ask for preferred green options in a newly built house.

There is also a scheme that is run through the Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM). Under this scheme you can use green building materials and designs and qualify for a green mortgage. You can even get mortgage help from these people if you are only planning to renovate, as long as you will be using green techniques and ideas.

If you want to find out more ideas about how to incorporate environmental considerations into the design, you will get some input from the green site at the National Association of Home Builders (NAH). Their site also includes such simple pointers as planting trees that let light into the home in the winter, and give shade in the hot summers, as well as tips on water conservation, and other reminders.

Some of the luxuries in a home which are not so ‘sustainable’ are being changed – gradually. For instance granite counter -tops are still fashionable, but buyers will often choose the look a like’s made from engineered stone. These are lighter and have not used up large amounts of gas being carted around the country.

Similar ‘swaps’ are made with hardwood floors and kitchen cabinets. Bamboo is widely used nowadays in homes by people who prefer to use sustainable resources. Bamboo wood flooring looks like hard oak wood floors but it grows in one tenth the time of an oak tree!

Another popular flooring is cork, which feels warmer and softer than ceramic tiles and is also a sustainable source. A bathroom with cork walls and cork flooring always feels warmer due to the slight ‘insulating’ properties of cork.

If you’re stuck in an apartment or have a small yard, you probably wish you had more room for a nice green house. It’d be nice to have lush plants growing outside in your yard, but since that’s not a possibility, you’ll have to go with an alternative option. Fortunately, there are products available for creating small indoor green houses. There are plants that do grow well inside, and you should be able to find some that will fit inside your apartment or home.

You can even keep some plants in your basement. Some small indoor green houses can be ordered in packages with light accessories. It might be a bit confusing at first, especially when dealing with hydroponics. The good news is that indoor hydroponics is easier to deal with than outdoor, so you just need to watch a tutorial video or read an instruction guide to figure out how to get the soil and lighting settings adjusted correctly. They can’t be over-lighted or under-lighted, so you’ll have to learn how to adjust the settings for all the plants.

The great thing about small indoor green houses is that they don’t attract as many bugs as outdoor green houses. You also won’t have to worry about them being destroyed in harsh elements. Nevertheless, you still need to make sure they get the right type of soil and light. Once they’re set up properly, your indoor plants will grow quickly.

The simplest, cheapest indoor plants are the ones that can be placed on a windowsill. They are a great choice if you’re looking for something simple to start with, and you can get them for less than $20. All you have to do is make sure they get adequate sunlight and water them often. Some indoor plants come with covers to help maintain moisture. You can order kits that contain settings for controlling humidity levels and temperature.

Growing racks are perhaps the most popular small indoor green houses. They are shelves that have a protective covering and built-in lighting. They come in a variety of sizes and styles, so you should be able to find some racks that look great in your home. The models come in two to four racks, and you can place them on a table or floor. You can also order a corner unit if you want to keep them in the corner of your home or basement.

All in all, having a small indoor green house inside your home will give you a chance to be creative. You can grow flowers, fruits, spices, vegetables, etc. There is a lot to choose from, and you need to make sure you get the right type of plants for your home. Whether you want to keep them on a table, windowsill, or basement, you need to find out what plants will grow best in your indoor environment.
